AUDIO VERSION The Sweater with Kathleen Dames | Season Four, Episode Two : The Yarn

Ooh, it’s time to talk a little bit about yarn. My favorite! Today’s mantra is: Know thyself (or thy intended recipient). When choosing yarn, it helps to consider what kind of sweater you WANT and how you will take care of it. Different fibers and their preparation will affect the yarn and, in turn, your final knit.

Apologies for the technical difficulties that delayed this episode. I believe I have things worked out, and next week should be a longer episode (yay for new, bigger memory cards!). Before you know it, Episode Five: LIVE SHOW will be here, so start asking your questions now, and I will answer them on the air in a few weeks. The best way to ask is by hitting reply on a newsletter email message, but you can also leave comments on episode pages on YouTube or on posts on Instagram/Twitter or on my Ravelry group.

If you haven’t already, visit http://www.kathleendames.com/thesweater to sign up for the newsletter. Be sure to create your project page on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/enwreathed-pullover

Thanks for being here, and happy knitting!

The Sweater with Kathleen Dames | Season Four, Episode Zero : Enwreathed Pullover

Are you ready for a new sweater? How about giving colorwork a try? You’re in luck! Today is the preview episode (or what I like to call Episode Zero) for Season Four of The Sweater with Kathleen Dames. We will be knitting the Enwreathed Pullover over the course of 12 weeks. Well, you’ll be knitting Enwreathed, and I will be working on a new design, The Heart Wants Pullover, which has similar elements (so I can show you what we are talking about) but with some differences that should be illuminating. I’m so excited and hope you are too!

If you haven’t already, visit http://www.kathleendames.com/thesweater to sign up for my newsletter. Be sure to create your project page on Ravelry and link it to the Enwreathed Pullover pattern.

You can purchase the previous seasons’ patterns (Solstice Cardi, Purly Pullover, Basic Cable, and Premium Cable) from my Ravelry shop any time.

  • Biches et Buches Le Petit Lambswool - the original Enwreathed Pullover and Cowl were knit in the MC: Bleu Noir Fonce (dark blue black) and CC: Gris Clair (light grey)
  • Manos del Urugauy - Kathleen will be using Allegria in Euphoria for her CC on The Heart Wants Pullover
  • Swans Island Company - Kathleen will be using Swans Island Pure Blends Fingering in Oatmeal, which has been discontinued, but Swans Island Sterling Fingering is a great substitute with the same 85% Merino/15% Alpaca fiber content

Pattern: Purly Pullover

Purly Pullover on Ravelry $8 (no account necessary)

Looking for something easy to knit and easy to wear? But it should be special, right? Knit this pullover with a few little tricks to make it special, then flip it inside-out to wear. Amaze your friends with all the purling you suffered through—they don’t need to know!

Purly Pullover is the sweater for Season Two of The Sweater with Kathleen Dames. Worked in the round from the bottom up, this sweater is a seamless raglan with some unusual elements. Almost exclusively knit stitch, you turn it inside out to wear it "purly". Written in my usual seven sizes, you can follow the Sport or DK version of the pattern.

Over the course of our 12-week season, we will knit this pattern together. I've already knit a sport version in tosh pashmina, so I'll be knitting a new one in Happy Fuzzy Yarns DK Merino - yum! You can subscribe to the podcast on YouTube or iTunes.

Click here to find out more about The Sweater with Kathleen Dames and subscribe to the newsletter.

By subscribing to The Sweater newsletter during Season Two (from 22 April until 22 July 2016), you will receive a link in the Welcome email to download your free copy.

Already a subscriber? You received the link in your Episode Zero newsletter.

Has Season Two ended? Purchase your copy of the pattern here.

What you'll love about knitting Purly Pullover:
  • Knit along with me! I'll take you through all the steps that go into knitting and finishing your beautiful sweater
  • It's almost ALL knitting! The few purl stitches in this sweater are decorative. Sometimes we just need a good, healthy knit-fest.
  • No waist shaping and basic sleeve increases make this the ultimate mindless knit -- choose your fantastic yarn accordingly!

What you'll love about wearing Purly Pullover:
  • Comfy, not sloppy, fit. I call this my "fancy sweatshirt".
  • Knitting friends will think you purled the whole thing. It will be our secret :)
  • Wearing the knit side of the fabric against your skin may spoil you for other knits.

And to keep you distracted from your (brief) visit to Sleeve Island, let's talk a little bit about our button options. I'll show you how I sew on a two-hole button plus give you some food for thought with shanked, cufflink-style buttons.
